What is the best moisturiser for your feet?

Many of us often experience cracked and sore heels, this problem can be managed in a variety of ways and one of the best treatments is a high quality moisturiser.

There are different types of moisturisers. Some add moisture when absorbed into the skin, others stop moisture from leaving. It is ideal to have both in a good moisturiser (examples: Dermeze and Epaderm). If you have cracking skin on your heels, then it would be ideal to use a heel balm.

We often recommend heel balms that contain urea to our patients. This is because urea is keratolytic and breaks down hard skin while moisturising. Urea increases skin moisture by removing dead skin cells and improving the ability of the skin to hold water.

How often should I moisturise my feet?

Your feet should ideally be moisturised daily. Most people find it easier to moisturise their feet at night after a shower.

Wearing socks after application can also help with cream absorption and to make it comfortable to walk around after application.
